Lorna’s Birth Story: Third Baby

written by |

Third time mum Lorna welcomed her third baby into the world after doing The Birth Chapter. Lorna was initially nervous of birth as had not felt she was in control in her previous two labours. Lorna equipped herself with knowledge to remain in control throughout and welcomed her baby girl into the world. Lorna’s husband said this was his “best experience” because of how in charge Lorna remained.

Shall I say I am clapping and giving you a standing ovation right now ?

I am so thankful I came across your ad on Facebook and purchased the course!!! The best investment I’ve done for myself.

Whoa! Where do I start from?”

Well, I am a 3rd time mum and this has been the best experience I have had! My first and second were both induced (small for gestational age) and I had no epidural (that’s a story for another day ).

Braxton Hicks or Labour?

I had my fears when we found out we were expecting. So many questions of pain management and healthy babies and induction again came to mind. But my oh my! I started eating dates at 35 weeks and going for walks. Last Friday, I was experiencing lots of contractions but just thought they were Braxton Hicks. Who would have thought I wouldn’t know cos I am a third time mum? Well, can’t blame me cos I did.

On Sunday, I went for a walk with the hubby who has been very supportive and always encouraged me to go on with the course. Oh yeah he knew what was in there and what was expected of him. About 8pm the contractions were getting stronger and I knew this is it. I managed the pains with TENS machine until it started getting unbearable.

Heading to Hospital

I got the hospital bag and used lots of the breathing techniques I learnt from the course. We headed to the hospital at about 1:15am and by 2:30, I was 9cm (I gave the midwife permission  to check )!!! How?! The breathing techniques were keeping me going. At this point I vomited but refused the anti sickness medication as I have never had one before. I was in the birth pool coping until my waters broke and there was méconium inside. I knew I had to get out of it so I did with the midwife’s help.

Welcoming my Third Baby

The pain got worse and I felt like pushing but it wasn’t time. At this point, I felt like giving up. I was tired and sleepy. I requested for an epidural only to be told I was 10cm. My husband kept reminding me each contraction brings our son closer to us, my body can do this. He kept massaging my back and the midwife was brilliant ! Oh I loved her .

I finally ended up on a birth stool and in 31 mins we welcomed our bouncy baby boy ! It was the sweetest moment. I had a slight 1st degree tear and that was it .

I am so grateful to you . Our son was born on 17th April at 3:56am weighing 7.39lb. He is our biggest baby and I was very worried my body wouldn’t cope but it did ! This has been my smoothest! No high BP issues – nothing ! I did love using my EBRAN. I was offered gas and air and birth ball (I had forgotten I requested all these in my birth plan but the breathing techniques were enough to see me through).

1st phase of labour was 4 hours

Active labour – 2hrs

3rd – 31 mins

My husband said this was his best experience as well because I was in charge (for the first time).”
