Can hypnobirthing induce labour?
You can definitely use the techniques you’ve used in hypnobirthing to induce labour. Here’s how…
Why can hypnobirthing induce labour?
One part of hypnobirthing is using your birth hormones to your advantage. Remember that pesky hormone adrenaline. Adrenaline tells your body that you are not in a safe place to give birth. This would have been so useful back in the day. Think if there were threats in your environment, such as a sabre tooth tiger in your birth cave. That adrenaline would have been useful to stall your start of labour enough to get you to a safe place to birth your baby. Nowadays, our adrenaline peaks from our anxious thoughts. Maybe that of an impending induction that you’re feeling nervous about, or general feelings of frustration that baby is not here yet! Being able to reduce your adrenaline during this time may help your labour start.
What part of hypnobirthing can help induce labour?
To get your adrenaline levels lower and your oxytocin hormones higher (oxytocin being the hormone that increases your contractions) you could use your hypnobirthing techniques. That list you have made to cope with contractions could help you even before they have even started. Think relaxation audios, breathing techniques, a funny film, massage or even a walk in nature. Even a nap!! Anything that is going stop you thinking of making baby come out is going to help labour start… oh the irony!
