Baby Names for your December Baby

written by |

The month of December is a great month to be expecting a baby. If you are on the fence, read this blog I wrote called Is December the best time to have a baby?  Spoiler alert: I think it is an amazing time to pregnant for so many reasons. If you are lucky enough to have a baby in December, here are my top December-inspired baby names.

Rudolph

Who wouldn’t want to be named after the most important reindeer? Whilst is has strong connections to Father Christmas’ red-nosed friend, it actually has German origins meaning “famous wolf”.

Carol

To remind you of all those traditional Christmas songs. In English, Carol is the feminine version of Charles meaning “strong”. In French, Carol means “song of happiness”.

Holly

For the birth month flower. Some believe holly is the symbol of fertility and eternal life, thought to have magical powers. Certainly making it a special name for your new arrival.

Ivy

The holly and the ivy – who just sang that? Ivy is an Old English word that represents eternity.

Joy

For all the festive joy. Joy is an old fashioned name and can be grouped with others of its kind including Merry, Glory and Bliss.

Douglas

One of the most common Christmas trees is the Douglas Fir. If Douglas isn’t for you then what about the nickname “Dougie” too which I think is just adorable.

Jack

Good ol’ Jack Frost – need I say more? Jack is a traditionally masculine name meaning “God is Gracious” although it is a name that is great for any gender. Variations can include Jac, or more feminine variations Jacklyn or Jacqueline.

Nicholas

Why not be named after chief of Christmas himself, with Santa also being known as St Nicholas. The name Nicholas has Greek origins and means ‘victory of the people’.

Robin/ Robyn

After the sweet festive bird need I say any more about this name that is beautiful for a boy or girl.

Was this list of December-inspired baby names helpful? What did you call your December baby?

If you’re after more baby names then head over to my predictions on what are going to be the most popular baby names in 2023.
