Birth Story: Blood in Waters

written by |

This birth story is with Rachel, who had some blood in her waters when they broke. Rachel was able to use EBRAN throughout to make informed choices and still have the birth she wanted. Love reading positive birth stories? You’re in the right place…

I want to message to say THANK YOU for your course. I can 100% say I would not have had the labour I had if it wasn’t for you.

Waters Breaking

At 4am my waters broke, no signs of contractions, and I thought, “oh here we go again“. The exact same as my first pregnancy which didn’t end too well (waters, no contractions, hormone drip, episiotomy, ventouse, and stitches coming undone that took 8 months to heal naturally 😳).

Blood in Waters

Originally I decided to stay home. I put a pad in to monitor things myself, but ended up popping into hospital around 10am to get checked as I had a TINY amount of blood in my waters and still no contractions. I was monitored and they could see that both baby’s heart rate and movements were absolutely fine. The consultant told me that despite this, pink was pink, it had to be treated that way, and he suggested I went on the hormone drip straight away.

A disheartening change of plans

My heart sank again. It was like my first labour was happening all over again and everything I didn’t want. But thanks to YOU and the knowledge and power you gave me, I used my EBRAN. I basically begged the consultant to let me try and start contractions naturally first. He was reluctant but said ok as long as I stayed in hospital so I could be monitored. Not where I’d planned on spending early labour, but I’d much rather that and try and go naturally than instantly be put on the drip.

So off I went to the maternity ward, already feeling a few niggles, hoping they were contractions and that they would get stronger (I’d heard midwives saying I was booked in for the drip at 4am if I hadn’t had the baby by then).

Contractions strengthening

Well the contractions definitely came! I used your breathing techniques throughout while listening to my playlist to keep me calm and focussed. Everyone commented on how in control I was and how impressed they were with my breathing.

As my waters had gone the midwives didn’t want to examine me until my contractions were coming every 2 minutes constantly. They occasionally came every 2 minutes, then back to 5/6. But again thanks to you, I listened to my own body, I knew I was further along than my contractions suggested, I explained this to my midwife who examined me, and I was 5cm!

Hello Baby

So after the starting the day thinking I was possibly going to be made to go on the drip, here I was, heading to MLU with a pool that was free!

So there I was in the pool with my speaker on and gorgeous lighting. I was singing in between contractions right until the end with only gas and air. The midwives couldn’t believe I was singing right until the end!

Baby came out within 1 contraction! My student midwife said it was the most amazing birth she’d ever witnessed.

So THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! All of my breathing techniques, mindset, and feeling in control due to my knowledge, came from your course. I have been singing your praises ever since!
