C-section Birth Story: Kayleigh

written by |

First time mum Kayleigh went into spontaneous labour after eating a spicy curry. Once established labour hit, her contractions slowed. She opted to have the hormone drip and an epidural. Kayleigh then chose to have a c-section and welcomed her beautiful baby girl. Read Kayleigh’s positive c-section birth story…

I’m such a planner and so afraid of the unknown.

Beth taught me so much and I felt in control. My birth plan was not to have one…… which was the right decision! I went into early labour on the 24th September at 12:30am (after having  a spicy curry!). That could be coincidence… I laboured at home really well. I was SO calm, listening to music, watching tv that made me laugh and played games…. Getting that Oxytocin flowing!

Going to the Hospital

At 3am on the 25th September I phoned the hospital to ask a few questions. They told me to come on in as the midwife was timing my contractions whilst on the phone and they had sped up to every 3 minutes. As soon as I’d been told it was time to go in I had begun shivering from the adrenaline of what was to come. I continued using the breathing techniques on the drive to hospital.

I went into the examination room where the midwife found that I was 4cm dilated and in active labour. Obviously I was so excited to hear this. I was moved into my our Labour Room and we settled in. We set up all of the calming aids we had learnt about on the course.

Contractions Slowing

By this point the contractions had slowed right down and because I had already been awake for 48 hours. I had begun to worry about lack of sleep due to a medical condition, so it was suggested that I go on the hormone drip to boost the contractions again. Because of this, I opted for a Epidural too. The Epidural was initially successful and the contractions really picked up.

Choosing a C-Section

Unfortunately as time went on I began to feel more of each contraction. The Epidural had failed. I got to 8cm when it was decided that the safest way for my baby and myself was having a C-section. Baby Hollie was born healthy, happy and safely on 25th September at 15:29!

Through all of this I felt so looked after by all the NHS staff and our lovely Midwife. I had Beth in the back of my mind the whole time and the breathing techniques got me through the whole thing! 4 in 7 out!

Beth taught me everything I needed to know and I felt in control the whole time and I knew I could do it! THANK YOU BETH!”

I don’t look at my birth story horrible or traumatic.

I hope this helps any mums to be who are preparing for birth.
