Jade’s Positive Birth; Optimal Positioning

written by |

Love reading positive birth stories, you’re in the right place…. This positive birth story is with Jade and the arrival of her baby girl, Lily Rose. Jade used breathing techniques to help during labour and also a comb on pressure points. Jade was led by her body and did what felt comfortable. She remained upright and forward in early labour and gave birth in optimal positioning.

Waters Breaking

So my little girl decided to make an early appearance! My waters went Saturday 20th November at 2:30pm. I was just finishing work on Saturday ready to head home and I felt a sudden bit of water trickle down my leg me thinking I may have wet myself. I was due to finish work a week later!  As I was only 36 weeks + 2. I got home and they continued coming so I knew this must be my waters but still in a bit of denial. About a week before this happening I was experiencing loosing some of my ‘ mucus’ plug but I’ve read and heard you can start to loose bit by bit leading up to giving birth.

I rang my midwife around 4 o’clock and said/ spoke to her saying I think my waters have broken. After having a chat with her about things she was pretty sure they had gone. With myself feeling a bit overwhelmed at the time and did shed some tears I tried to remain calm and positive that even though I was nearly 4 weeks early I’ll get to meet my little girl and we will be in the best place. She then sent me straight up to go to the hospital to be checked.

Heading to the Hospital

Once getting a few things sorted and thank god I had my bags already packed about two weeks before this! I arrived at hospital about 6 o’clock and they checked me and confirmed that my waters had gone and that I’ll be staying in to see if my contractions will start themselves within 24 hours. By 8 o’clock that evening my contractions started.. they wasn’t bad at the start just felt a bit uncomfortable like period pains! As the hours went on they started to get a bit more uncomfortable to the point I couldn’t sit or lie down. I was having paracetamol at this point to help the pain. The only time I felt comfortable was either bouncing on my birth ball, pacing up and down the ward (which luckily I had to myself that evening) or bent over leaning on the window ledge.

I had a sleepless night of being uncomfortable and getting through the contractions. It was then 11am the next morning which by that point I was very uncomfortable and in pain. I asked the midwife to check me. I was 4cm and ready to head up to the delivery suite! Luckily my partner was heading up anyway and arrived just as I was told we was ready to head up to labour ward! My birth plan I would’ve loved a water birth but because she was an early baby that wasn’t able to happen. Was I a bit gutted? Of course as I’ve always loved the idea of water birth but at this point I thought to myself I just want my little girl here safe.

Breathing Techniques

“I also used the ‘ comb’ which was said about in the course to help with taking your mind off the pain a little while contracting. This definitely helped me at some points of my labour!”

They said they’ll check me again at 3:30pm. While in labour I remembered to use my breathing technique from the course in for 4 our for 7. Which I used the whole time from getting to the hospital and I can 100% say this helped me so much to get through labour and the contractions! With the help of only gas and air.

It’s time for a baby! Optimal Positioning for Birth

3:30pm came around and midwife checked me, never thought in 4 hours I’d be 10cm and ready to push! I was on my knees leaning over the top of the bed (optimal positioning for birth!) As I really didn’t want to be on my back giving birth By 4:14pm my little 5lb 14 baby girl had arrived. Will, my partner, cut the cord and I was able to have an hour skin to skin and she latched on the boob pretty well for a feed! I did have the injection to help deliver my placenta which was perfect choice for myself.

We cover optimal positioning for birth in our online hypnobirthing and antenatal course. All details can be found here.

I did suffer with a 3 degree tear which I was then taken to theatre to be sorted out. It  wasn’t great but that was sorted pretty quick and very much healing very well now!

Postnatal

We didn’t have a great start after she was here as we had to spend a week in hospital as my little girl had jaundice. It kept going worse then good then worse again with a few other complications as well! Being a first time mum and having to be in hospital by yourself trying to look after her while her getting better was very overwhelming and emotional. A week later we was able to head home and be a family.

“My friend recommended this course and Facebook group to me which I couldn’t thank her enough as it really really did help me get through labour!”

My friend recommended this course and Facebook group to me. I couldn’t thank her enough as it really really did help me get through labour! As being a first time mum I was pretty scared how labour was going to be. Especially giving me ideas of what labour could be like. I wouldn’t of managed my breathing if I didn’t know about the in for 4 our for 7! That helped me so much to get through my contractions. Also staying calm throughout my whole labour, so thank you for this course. I’ve already recommended it to a few other friends!
