Laura’s Positive Gestational Diabetes Birth Story

written by |

Love reading positive birth stories, you’re in the right place…. This positive gestational diabetes birth story is with first time mum Laura who was diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes. Due to this, Laura was induced at 38 weeks pregnant. Just 6 hours after the gel was applied, baby Cora made her way into the world!

Positive Gestational Diabetes birth story

Well there’s me thinking/worried my induction was going to take days!!  Here’s my positive birth story…

Induction due to Gestational Diabetes

At 12 o’clock midday I was in the hospital for my induction at 38 weeks due to Gestational Diabetes. Baby’s heart rate was a little bit too high at times from the initial monitoring. I was put on a heart monitor for a couple of hours until they were satisfied.

At 2 o’clock the first lot of gel was applied. I was given 6 hours to wait. By 4pm the contractions has started. They were quite light at first. I used my breathing, walked around a lot, drank loads of water and peed a lot!!

Contractions

At one of these many toilet trips my waters must have broken but didn’t realise! By 6 o’clock my contractions had really ramped up. I was still just using my breathing techniques I had learnt on this course. No one came to check if I’d dilated at all just said they’d be in at 7pm to give the next lot of gel.

Baby’s Arrival

Well by 7pm I was ready to push, sat on the loo again! It was at this point my husband had to find the midwife. She came in and could see the head. I got on all fours on the bed and pushed her out by 8.03pm!! With absolutely no pain relief!!!!! We had 3 hours of skin-t- skin, a bit whilst they stitched my up as I did tear a little bit. I used gas n air for that bit!

Thank you to The Bump to Baby Chapter!

I couldn’t have done it without this course and everything I learnt. Thank you Beth Kitt!!

Baby Cora weighing 7lb 9oz born at 8.03pm. I was back home at 2pm the following day!

Hugest congratulations to Laura and baby Cora!
