Nicoles Birth Story – Induction for Gestational Diabetes

written by |

Love reading positive birth stories, you’re in the right place…. This positive birth story gestational diabetes is from Nicole. She had an induction for gestational diabetes. She used affirmations, hypnobirthing an epidural and had an incredible birth.

I just wanted to share my birth story. My partner and I did the birth course with literally a week before my induction (induced because of gestational diabetes). I literally credit this course to our experience it was amazing so much so I actually feel really sad and physically cried a couple times in the days after at how much we truly enjoyed the whole thing. Already I have recommended the course to a couple of people. I thought I would let you know what was most important for me.

The affirmations mainly..

– I can do anything for 60 seconds
– Every contraction brings me closer to my baby
– Me and my baby are working together

I was literally saying these out loud the whole time and my midwife (who was amazing also, I had a male midwife and he was the best I couldn’t of asked for better) was saying I was right and encouraging it.

A couple of other things…

My partner was encouraging the in for 4, out for  7 counting in my ear.

Also, the stroking my palms and encouraging me to drink and use the loo often. I honestly believe this made my baby’s birth what it was.

Induction for Gestational Diabetes

I was induced at 1.30pm (gel) already being 1cm. Was at about 2.5-3cm at 9pm and they broke my waters. I started contracting about 30 mins later. Had the drip to maintain a rythym in my contractions. Made it until 2am where I had the epidural. It didn’t quite work which I’m sure some would have seen as negative but I was glad I had this part of the experience, it had to be resited again around 4.30am. I was 7cm at 8am and checked again at 12pm and I was fully dilated and baby was almost ’round the bend’ all on his own. We waited about another hour just to make sure on ‘the descent’ (if baby was low enough to start pushing- this is common to do with an epidural).

Baby’s Arrival

I started pushing at 1pm and HE (it was a little surprise) was born at 1.38pm on the 16th December 21 weighing 7lbs 7oz. I had no tears and very minimal bleeding. They said only around 100ml. My midwife Connor was super impressed he said as I was 4 pushes on each contraction I wasn’t thinking about pain and I just kept the mindset that I was about to meet my little human for the first time and I was so excited and already full of love.

So all in all I just want to say thank you so much. Because of this course I’m ready to go again already and I already can’t wait and I know I won’t have the anxiety I had the whole pregnancy next time my only regret was I didn’t do the course earlier in my pregnancy instead of so close to the end. Thank you so much again I have my beautiful bundle Albie 💙.
