When should I start Hypnobirthing?

written by |

You are sold on the fact that you want to do hypnobirthing. You’re excited to start so can feel calm and confident and ready for birth. But – a question we here time and time again, when should I start hypnobirthing?

My answer? Anytime… seriously, anytime.

Is there an ideal time to start hypnobirthing?

As a rough guide, between 20 and 24 weeks. This means you have enough time to practice the techniques and feel like you’ve mastered them by the end of your pregnancy.

It also depends on whether you are planning to do an in-person course or online. If you want to do an in-person course then you will need to take into account when the course dates are. You probably won’t want to do it too close to your due date in case you do have your baby before you due date.

If you want to do an online course then your timing is more flexible – you can actually do The Birth Chapter Online Hypnobirthing in an afternoon if you binge watch it. The whole course can be completed in about 4 hours.

What is the earliest I can start?

If you are feeling nervous about your birth now, why wait? The sooner you start, the more prepared and excited for birth you will feel. Women have started The Birth Chapter as early as in their first trimester. I’ve even had some complete it before they are pregnant! If you’re worrying about birth, then it’s never too soon to get prepared and less anxious earlier on your pregnancy journey.

Can I learn when I am full term?

Absolutely. I have known plenty of women to complete Hypnobirthing when they are full-term, and even overdue. Whilst it doesn’t give you as much time to practice the techniques, some knowledge of hypnobirthing is absolutely better than none.
