Which Celebrities have used Hypnobirthing?

written by |

You’ve heard about hypnobirthing, but what actually is it? And which of your favourite celebrities have used hypnobirthing?

“Do any celebrities actually use hypnobirthing?” And the answer is a big, beautiful YES. In fact, some seriously high-profile women have shared that hypnobirthing helped them stay calm and in control during labour. Let’s have a look at who’s done their hypnobirthing and birth prep…

1. Kate Middleton (Duchess of Cambridge)

Let’s start with the royal mama herself. Kate Middleton used hypnobirthing for all three of her births, and even for coping with severe morning sickness (she has spoken openly about her struggles with hyperemesis). She opened up about how hypnobirthing techniques helped her feel in control during pregnancy and labour. And as a midwife, I just love that even a royal birth involved deep breaths, affirmations, and good old hypnotherapy.

2. Jessica Alba

Hollywood actress and Honest Company founder Jessica Alba has talked openly about how hypnobirthing helped her through the births of her daughters. She described it as empowering and calming and even said it helped reduce pain. She was such a fan that she practised daily. Talk about birth prep goals!

3. Angelina Jolie

Yes — even Angelina Jolie turned to hypnobirthing techniques. It’s been reported that she used hypnobirthing during the caesarean birth of her twins, Vivienne and Knox. This is such an important reminder that hypnobirthing isn’t just for vaginal births, it can be an amazing support tool during any type of birth, including C-sections.

4. Busy Philipps

Actress and podcast host Busy Philipps is never one to hold back, and she’s spoken about her experience using hypnobirthing too. She found it helpful in managing labour and staying relaxed. She planned to labour at home using hypnobirthing techniques before heading to the hospital to give birth. Although fully prepared for interventions if needed, her goal was a calm, empowered birth and that’s exactly what hypnobirthing supports.

5. Fearne Cotton

TV presenter and podcast queen Fearne Cotton shared that she used hypnobirthing during her labour, too. She’s spoken about how it helped her feel more prepared, calm, and ready for the unknowns of birth, and as someone who speaks openly about anxiety, her experience shows how powerful mindset tools can be. Fearne credited her hypnobirthing coach (and tools like “Yes Mum” cards) for guiding her mindset. She contrasted this birth with her first, emphasising the joy and empowerment she felt: “I think it’s important to remember how amazing the female body is and the strength of a woman.” (Huffington Post)

3. Giovanna Fletcher

We couldn’t possibly write a blog about celebrity hypnobirthing fans without mentioning the wonderful Giovanna Fletcher; author, actress, I’m a Celeb winner, and host of the hugely popular Happy Mum, Happy Baby podcast.

Giovanna has spoken openly and honestly about using hypnobirthing techniques during her pregnancies and births. She even trained as a hypnobirthing practitioner herself. How amazing is that?

She’s had three births and credited hypnobirthing with helping her feel empowered, calm, and connected throughout each one. Giovanna is especially passionate about taking the fear out of birth, something we also shout about here at The Bump to Baby Chapter. She’s said:

“Hypnobirthing taught me to let go of fear and trust my body – it made a huge difference.”

Why These Celebs Matter

Are you surprised which celebrities have used hypnobirthing?

From Kate Middleton and Giovanna Fletcher to Jessica Alba and Fearne Cotton, these incredible women all chose hypnobirthing to support a calmer, more positive birth experience. Whether it was their first baby or their third, a natural birth or a planned caesarean, hypnobirthing gave them tools to feel grounded and strong.

And the best bit? You don’t need a stylist, a podcast, or a title to do the same.
